Jon's Birthday!

Jon celebrated his 24th birthday on November 6! I didn't have to work this day because I had a doctor's appointment. So, I made him lunch (his favorite meal)...Hamburger, corn, tomato casserole. Since the name is so long, we shortened it to "Jonathan casserole."

Then, he opened presents, read all the birthday cards my 1st graders wrote him, and we enjoyed just hanging out. I hope he enjoyed his first birthday as a married man!

Here are the photos.

Look at the stack of gifts! Whoo hoo!

The "well-needed" men's socks....we laughed!

One of his favorite authors is "Tedd Decker."

A new cd and a set of pens for med-school.

The big gift...new speakers for his car.
Jon...I hope you had a blessed birthday! Thanks to everyone for the birthday wishes! He loved them all.

Pumpkin Time!!

Everyone...I am so sorry that this update has been long awaited. But I have lots of pictures to share. So here we go!

Missy and I had a weekend of fun carving pumpkins, eating 3 homemade meals, and just enjoying one another's company. Here are some photos.

The "During" Picture. Yucky goo!

Nailing on the faces.

Picking out all the pumpkin seeds. We baked them...yum, yum.

Our final creation. What faces! ;)

Our Busy Life

I will update with pictures soon...I have some seriously cute 1st graders in my class, although I'm not sure if it's "legal" to add pics of them on public internet. So, I guess I will just have to tell you funny stories of what they say and do.

Funny story for today:

A girl in my class is bilingual in Portugese and English. She is from Brazil...way cool.
Anyway, today the 1st graders were drawing pictures of what goes "up" and what goes "down." This bilingual girl was drawing pictures of butterflies, clouds, and then at the bottom of her page there was a little dog with little dots coming out the behind. I asked her, "What is this" (pointing to those dots). She says, "it's pooping" (in her Brazilian accent).

I cracked up...

White Coat Ceremony

Isn't Jon handsome in his doctor's coat?! After completing his week-long orientation at KU medical school, he received his white coat. Now, this makes him an official "student of medicine." I am so proud of him!

Setting up the room

This past week, my mom came up to help set up my classroom. We got a great start, but there is still a lot to do. I am much more excited now that I have the classroom more prepared! Here are some pictures for you to see.
My lovely art and crafts center

My word wall named "Key Words"
The reading center. After the kids read a book they tear off a "Admit One" raffle ticket, write their name on the back and place it in the popcorn box. At the end of the week I randomly draw one name out, and the winner gets a prize from the treasure box! Lots of fun!!!

School!

So, Jon and I are both going back to school! Jon's school will be much harder and intense, but I also hear that the first year of teaching is "survival." This makes me a bit scared because I'm already starting to get overwhelmed. I don't know why I do this...it's been a part of my nature to worry about new changes. I constantly tell myself to 'not worry' but I keep thinking about it and it's a whole cycle. Then, everytime this happens I look back after about 3 months and say, "Why did I worry about that?" I feel like this will once again happen...so maybe I can just try to break that cycle...and NOT worry.

Last night Jon and I had our first 'scare.' We went out to Red Robin to eat burgers (I had a coupon for a free one). After we were home about 20 minutes, my throat started to swell, it was hard to breathe, my eyes were puffy, and I started to itch. I ended up having an allergic reaction to something. Jon took great care of me! He gave me some Benadryll (sp?) and was by my side during the whole ordeal. It was a bit scary for us both, but after we got things under control we were able to get some rest and fall asleep.

Keep praying for us as we are going through all these new changes right now. The Lord is good and we are leaning upon Him. Really the only thing that matters in this world is to live for Him and his glory and experience Him everyday. That is what gets me through...Christ alone.

Family Visits

On July 7th Jon's family (parents, sisters, and grandparents) came to visit! We had so much fun and it was so nice to show everyone our new place. We went to a tasty Mexican restaurant for lunch and then came back to the house to play some "Guitar Hero." It was a blast and I was very proud of Grandma Judy, and her guitar playing skills! Here are a few pictures of us "gettin' down."

Rob and Grandma Judy are playing a duet. They did great!

My two sister-in-laws had fun with it too!

4th of July

Jon and I enjoyed having our own 4th of July celebration. We ended up sleeping in, doing stuff around town, going out to dinner and a Kansas City Royals Game. Even though the Royals lost terribly and the fireworks show faltered, we enjoyed ourselves and had a great time at the game! You can't beat peanuts, baseball lights, the players, the organ, and the pure loveliness of going to a summer baseball game!

In the Stadium.

So much fun!

Our First Home

Our Bedroom...

Our Livingroom...

We love our first home! We feel that it is just perfect for us as we start our marriage and lives together. It is a one bedroom apartment...and it really is spacious for us. The location is great (driving to both of our desinations- med school and elementary school). We like all of our neighbors, thus far. Did I mention the pool and hot tub- that's a huge plus for me. We are just enjoying every minute of being here and being together. We are so blessed!

Newly Weds

Whoo hoo... Jonathan and I are now official owners of our first blog page! Aren't you excited to be filled in on all our McCully memories?!

To update everyone...married life is wonderful for us. We feel so incredibly blessed by God for the gifts he is showering upon us. It is amazing the lessons you quickly learn about yourself and your character when you are married. Jon has taught me so much about myself...and I am so grateful for that. I trully feel like I am a better person because of him.

About our summer:
Jonathan- He is enjoying his summer job at "Hen House" (a high-class grocery store). Although as days go by, he gets more and more excited about starting his medical school classes. He begins med school orientation on July 26th. So, keep him in your prayers.

Denise- I am busy working as a server at Outback Steakhouse. I've always wanted the experience of "waitressing." It's been good so far, but I am so glad that it's only a temporary job. I have gained a true respect for those who have made a living out of it. It's hard work...sometimes it pays off and sometimes it's a little cheap. I offically had my lowest tip last night= $0.67. What a way for the Lord to humble me!

Anyway, we will try to keep posting on a "somewhat" regular basis. Love you guys. God bless you!
